Serving Comfort Since 1981

Rustlers Roost opened in 1981, founded by Jack LaRoach on Sherman Avenue in Coeur d’Alene.

In 1983, ownership passed to Joan and Dean McEvers, along with their sons Woody and Daren, who helped shape the Roost into the restaurant locals know and love.

The original 35-seat café served breakfast all day and quickly became famous for biscuits and gravy, home-fried potatoes, and Pike Street tea. As its popularity grew, the Roost added lunch, moved up the street in 1989, and expanded into dinner service and North Idaho BBQ with seating for 120. Around that time, Rustlers began supporting firefighting crews during wildfire events, establishing its long-standing Emergency Food Services.

A second location opened in Hayden in 1993, and when the Sherman location closed in 1999, Hayden remained the home of Rustlers. In 2008, the restaurant moved into a brand-new building on Rustler’s Trail, where it continues to serve its classic breakfast and lunch favorites.

A New Chapter — Same Heart

In October 2025, Chris and Mike Yost purchased Rustlers, committed to preserving and building upon the legacy that Woody and Daren created over decades of hard work. We don’t want to change Rustlers’ history, only add to it.

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating Woody and Daren’s well-earned retirement and in supporting us as we proudly continue the story of

Rustlers Roost.
